Challenge
Peak evenings brought hundreds of concurrent players onto a network that had grown plugin by plugin. Downtime was visible instantly in the community and slow to diagnose behind the scenes.
Approach
We separated the game servers from the services they depend on, moved shared state into a proper backend API, and added monitoring so the team sees problems before players report them. The web stack was rebuilt on the same API, so the site and the servers agree on what is true.
Technology

- Docker
- Next.js
Results
- Shared backend API replacing per-plugin data stores
- Monitoring and alerting covering game servers and web
- Website and in-game systems reading from a single source of truth
